Practical
Insurance and new patients
I’m accepting new patients at all three offices in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. Here are the plans we accept, and what happens if yours isn’t one of them.
Plans we accept
- United Concordia
- MetLife
- Cigna Total plans
- Delta Dental PPO
- Delta Dental Premier
- Aetna PPO plans
If your plan isn’t listed
We can still file other PPO plans for you, though we’re out of network for those. That means we don’t hold a contract with the insurer, so their agreed in-network rates don’t apply. Many PPO plans still pay toward care from an out-of-network dentist, often at a lower percentage.
The honest advice is to call with your insurance card handy before you book. The team can look at your specific plan and tell you where you stand, rather than leaving you to find out afterward.
Medicaid and FAMIS
We don’t accept Virginia Medicaid or FAMIS at our offices. If your child is covered by either, you’ll need a practice that participates in those programs — worth checking before you book anywhere, so you’re not caught off guard.
Accepting new patients
Yes — at all three offices of Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. You don’t need a referral from anyone to bring your child; parents can call any office directly. Dentists and physicians are also welcome to refer a patient.
Knowing the cost beforehand
Please ask, always. Nothing is scheduled without you knowing what’s planned and what it will cost, and you’ll never be asked to agree to treatment that hasn’t been explained to you first.
Before you come
What to bring
- Insurance card
- Bring it to the first visit, and have it with you when you call so the team can check your plan.
- Medical details
- A list of your child’s medications and any health conditions or diagnoses.
- Comfort
- Anything that helps your child feel settled — a favorite toy, a blanket, headphones.
- Tell us
- Anything that tends to calm or upset your child. It lets me plan the visit around them rather than around the schedule.
